Genetic Differences between AD and Mixed Pathology Subjects

   Proposal Description:
   Genetic variants may predispose individuals to mixed dementia pathologies and in doing so, affect neuropathological presentation and disease biomarkers. Using the genomic data of subjects with phenotypic data present in the NACC database received separately through NIAGADS, we aim to search for rare variants shared by either AD only subjects or mixed pathology dementia subjects, but not both. The groups will be split between cases that have mixed dementia pathologies and controls that have a purely AD pathology. With these subjects, we intend to further examine the relationship between the variants found and dementia phenotypes such as CSF and volumetric data. By studying the effects of these rare variants, we expect to gain a greater understanding of the genetic architecture that leads to the development of mixed pathologies.
